Anne Barton, longtime character actress who enjoyed a 30-year career beginning in the 1950s, died Nov. 27 at her home in Los Angeles after a lengthy illness. She was 72.
Barton was born in Evansville, Ind., and raised in Columbus, Ohio. She moved to New York at 17 to study acting at Barnard and made her first Broadway appearance in “Junior Miss” a year later. She met her future husband, actor Dan Barton, while she was with the road company of “Life With Father” in Chicago.
They married the following year and moved to Hollywood, where she took the lead in the legit presentation of “I Am a Camera” at the Players Ring.
Barton guested on such popular TV shows as “Have Gun, Will Travel,” “Cannon” and “Green Acres” and made multiple appearances on “Gunsmoke,” “Zane Grey Theater,” “Perry Mason” and “Twilight Zone.”

She also appeared in a handful of features, including “The Green Eyed Blonde” (1957), “Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?” (1962) and “The Way West” (1967).
In addition to her husband of 51 years, she is survived by son Steven, a musician; daughter Susan Berman, an actress-producer; and a granddaughter.
